"Main Protestant Church"

Grote Kerk; Sint Jacobskerk (St James the Great Church), dates back to the medieval times. Built between 1308 through 1328 in an early Gothic style of architecture, it was initially a Roman Catholic church before becoming a Protestant congregation in 1572. Over its long existence, it has undergone several restorations. However a major fire in 1911 nearly burnt it down. Due to this heavy damage, a lot of its antiquity was lost and it was rebuilt. Today it is one of the largest Protestant churches in the city.
