The Mary Rose Musem

Located at the Portsmouth Historic Dockyard, The Mary Rose Museum was established in 1984 in honor of legendary naval warship 'Mary Rose' that served King Henry VIII for 33 years. The primary exhibit of the museum, it was built in 1510 and was the biggest vessel of its kind at the time, weighing about 500-tons in its prime. Primarily used only during wars, the ship sank in 1545 only to be only discovered 426 years later in 1971.

Spinnaker Tower

Regarded as one of the tallest edifices of the United Kingdom, the Spinnaker Tower soars at a height of 170 meters (560 feet)! Offering views from its three decks, the tower offers a 360-degree panoramic view of the Portsmouth harbor, the Isle of Wight and the South Coast. During the day, you can stand amazed at the glittering views of the sea. As dawn sets in, the Spinnaker Tower offers spectacular views of sparkling lights. Besides offering breathtaking views of the sea, the Spinnaker Tower also serves as an event space for private functions, corporate events, and concerts.

HMS Victory

The HMS Victory is a historic ship that, after having witnessed much history, rests today as a prominent attraction. The ship was launched in 1765 and is the oldest one still in commission. Her claim to fame is the historic Battle of Trafalgar wherein she was used as a flagship by Lord Nelson. She has also been part of other battles and voyages. With a colossal body, multiple decks and high waving sails, the ship is a wonderful sight. The neighboring Royal Naval Museum displays much information, photographs, old maps and other memorabilia of this giant vessel that has sailed through murky waters.

The D-Day Story

This museum in Southsea is dedicated to D-Day, the world's largest-ever seaborne invasion. Visitors are treated to the famous Overlord Embroidery, together with several fascinating audio-visual presentations and are provided with an insight into the everyday sights and sounds of wartime Britain. Examples of British military equipment and vehicles are on display, along with the personal memories of those who lived through the experience of the invasion.


The site of Southsea is one of the most scenic seaside resorts in the County of Hampshire. It is precisely located in the Portsmouth vicinity that lies at the end of Portsea Island. It brags of being a booming commercial area. The resort is inclusive of a couple of national department stores apart from the many high street chains. It is most renowned for being the home to these immaculately large stores and the varied individual traders.

Charles Dickens' Birthplace Museum

Charles Dickens was the second of seven children and his birthplace is now an interesting museum. It is open between April and October and also opens every year on Charles' birthday. Charles lived with his family in two other houses, but both were destroyed in the World War. After moving from the area, he did not see Portsmouth again until he was nearly 30, whilst researching for Nicholas Nickleby.
