The Allen-Lambe House was built in 1915 by the celebrated architect Frank Lloyd Wright and was one of the last Prairie style houses he designed. Originally designed for statesman Henry J. Allen and his wife, it was later sold to the Allen-Lambe House Foundation. The building is now a museum that conducts tours for visitors. Some of the best examples of Prairie style of architecture as well as Frank Lloyd's own distinct style of interior design can be see in this house. The Ulrich Museum of Art was established in 1974 and is named after New York businessman Edwin A. Ulrich, who donated over 300 paintings by Frederick Judd Waugh to the museum. The museum has a striking appearance on the outside and houses two galleries. The Martin H. Bush Outdoor Sculpture Collection has over 70 statues. These include the works of eminent artists like Luis Jiménez, Henry Moore, Louise Nevelson and others. The museum provides free guided tours.
Charles Koch Arena is also known as "The Roundhouse," and is home to the Wichita State University basketball and women's volleyball teams. Its round design means that you'll have a great view from any of the 10,506 seats in the arena. Besides hosting collegiate sports, this venue also hosts high school events, circus performances, and ice skating performances.
Cessna Stadium, located on the Wichita State University campus, is a premier track and field stadium that hosts the annual Kansas State High School Championship meet. Built in 1969, this 30,000 seat stadium also is the home to the Wichita State University track and field team.
The Sedgwick County Zoo is one of the largest zoos in the state. A major tourist attraction, this zoo is home to more than 2500 animals of about 500 different species. Along with areas to view the animals, the site includes a children's play area, snack bars, boat rides, and trams. Between Penguin Cove, the Tiger Trek, and the Downing Gorilla Forest, there's enough to see that you'll want to spend a whole day here.
At 14 miles (22 kilometers) in length, the Arkansas River Trail is one of the longest and most popular paths in Wichita. Walk or bike along the Arkansas River, taking in the great outdoors. Along the path, not only will you see plants and wildlife, but you'll come across major attractions in the city, like stadiums and museums.
