Often referred to as the 'Air Capital Of The World' and the home to Cessna, Wichita was a humble little Native American village that was incorporated in 1870. Wealthy businessmen arrived here to hunt and set up trade relations with the earnest natives. Present-day Wichita has evolved greatly as a throbbing art & entertainment city that boasts an eclectic nightlife, clubs, eateries, museums, parks, art galleries, shopping malls, libraries, educational institutions and natural riches.
At Mosley Street Melodrama, the audience is part of the performance. During the show, you can feel free to cheer for the hero of the story. Tickets can be purchased with our without dinner. Enjoy a buffet-style meal while watching some of Wichita's best live entertainment. They also have a full bar and complimentary popcorn to complete the experience.
The Great Plains Transportation Museum consists of two levels. Downstairs, at the gift shop, you'll be able to get t-shirts, collectibles, books, toys, and other items relating to transportation. Upstairs, the exhibits include railroad artifacts, signs, and other memorabilia. By far the most popular attraction is the collection of antique locomotives outside. Kids and adults can actually explore inside the locomotives, seeing all the controls and machinery. Employees are knowledgeable and will be able to answer your questions about the exhibits.
If you are looking for a place to relax, drink beer and listen to some excellent live music in Wichita, The Brickyard is a good destination. Located along the North Rock Island in the city's historic Old Town and housed inside a warehouse, this place offers an outdoor as well as in indoor bar. Guests can choose to rock the night away outside, enjoying a cool summer breeze, or they can sit inside, chat with friends or the friendly staff, while sipping on a cool pint of beer. Special theme nights are organized here throughout the week, and live music is a norm, so expect fun when you head to The Brickyard.
The mission at Exploration Place is to make learning about science fun and interesting for kids and adults alike. Exhibits are creative and interactive, like the Big Mouth, where you can walk up to a huge, anatomically correct replica of the human mouth and learn about teeth, gums and good oral hygiene. There's plenty of rental space available here for meetings or a special event. Kids love birthday parties here!
