Few cities have anything as splendid as this nearly 1000 acre (404.68 hectares) island park. Accessible by the MacArthur Bridge, Belle Isle has been a favorite place for relaxation and recreation, plus it's a great spot to watch the ore freighters gliding down the river. Around the island, there is a beach, a conservatory, formal gardens, an old lighthouse, the Dossin Great Lakes Museum, lagoons, picnic areas, and much more. The Scott Fountain, with its imposing gargoyles, provides a great evening light show. Entry to the park itself is free, however there is a fee for vehicles entering the park.
Located inside the Windsor International Aquatic and Training Centre, Adventure Bay Family Water Park is a great place for the entire family. This indoor waterpark is clean and very well maintained. It has many rides that are sure to make the little ones oblivious to time. Charming decorations make for an endearing wave pool, which is quite vast and therefore perfect for your entire group. Slides at the Adventure Bay Family Water Park include giants like the Python and the Whizzard, both of which will thrill daredevils. The Flowrider is another fun ride and better suited to a general crowd. If you come with toddlers, take them to the Tot Loch, a cute play area designed for younger children. Thanks to these aforementioned features Adventure Bay Family Water Park is recognized as one of Windsor's popular amusement parks.
Located on the Canadian coast of the Detroit River, overlooking the Detroit River Walk, Art Gallery of Windsor is a platform for nurturing creative expression. The history of the Art Gallery of Windsor dates back to 1943 when it was established in Willistead Manor. As the collection grew, the gallery moved to a better location, at which time it also came to be known as one of the city's most touted galleries. In the mid-1990s, the Art Gallery of Windsor temporarily shifted and moved back to its original waterfront location but in a new building, where it still proudly stands. With the beautiful River Rouge, River Canard, and the Ecorse River as its tributaries, the Detroit River and its surrounding environs are soaked in natural magnificence. One of the busiest waterways in the world, the river has been heavily polluted, but over the last few decades, major efforts have been made to clean it up and restore it to its natural state. The river has become a major commercial hub over the years, with a number of hotels and commercial buildings cashing in on its beauty. Cruises like The Detroit Princess Riverboat evinces wonderful sights of Detroit's riverfront. Within the river, numerous picturesque islands such as Belle Isle and Grosse Isle are arrayed, which are always buzzing with activity. Looming over the rippling waters are a string of bridges, which make it all the more scenic. Designated an American Heritage River, Detroit River is one of the most treasured sites in the country.
This promenade in Downtown Detroit runs along the Detroit River from the Joe Louis Arena to Rivard Plaza. The RiverWalk is a popular destination for various activities including walking, jogging, and rollerblading. The RiverWalk passes through and by a number of area landmarks, including the Tri-Centennial State Park Lighthouse, the Detroit River and Hart Plaza with its Underground Railroad Memorial. It's a great destination for the whole family, and even includes a spouting fountain for kids and people of all ages to play in on a hot day.
In the summer months, take a two-hour tour of one of the world's busiest international waterways, the Detroit River. This fun cruise leaves twice a day from docks in two locations, The Upper Detroit River Tour departs from Detroit's Rivard Plaza while the Lower Detroit River Tour departs from Bishop Park in Wyandotte. The ships Diamond Jack and Diamond Queen have sailed the Great Lakes for many years and are Coast Guard approved. The Detroit tour passes by modern downtown Detroit and along the Canadian shore passing under the famous Ambassador Bridge.
