"Canopy And Caves"
Located on the side of a hill with caves in the background and under a canopy of trees is this often overlooked Shingon temple. Just four years before he was installed as regent, Nagatoki Hojo founded Jokomyo-ji in 1252. Included in the temple's treasures are a huge Amida statue called the 'Jewel Crowned Amida' and excellent images of the Goddess of Mercy, but they are not on view for the public. One grave worth mentioning is that of a Fujiwara- clan poet called Tamesuke Reizei.
