Grimaldi's Coal Brick-Oven Pizzeria

Located near the scenic waterfront in Brooklyn, the now-legendary Grimaldi's Coal Brick-Oven Pizzeria offers excellent pizzas and other delicacies. Cooked in a brick oven, the pies emerge crispy, fresh, and pleasantly charred. The toppings always consist of choicest ingredients, including delectable sausages, bacon, meatballs, vegetables, and mozzarella cheese. Other dishes on the menu include a variety of fresh salads, desserts, calzones, along with an impressive beer and wine list. Over the years, Grimaldi's has earned its share of faithful customers, who consider this to be the best pizza in New York City.

Serafina

Created by Vittorio Assaf and Fabio Granato while out at sea, Serafina has stamped its presence across the globe. It promotes Northern Italian flavors with an array of brick-oven pizza and handmade pasta, as well as delicious meat and seafood dishes made from the choicest ingredients and traditional recipes. Dine out on the breezy patio or in the company of Michela Martello's inspiring paintings inside. End your meal with signature Italian dessert imports Tiramisu or Panna Cotta.

Katz's Delicatessen

For more than a 100 years, this huge cafeteria-style Jewish deli has been delighting New Yorkers with their pastrami and brisket sandwiches alongside their scrumptious "kosher-style" meals. The humble eatery, with Formica tables lined up in rows is a great place if you are craving a giant sandwich served with perfect pickles or a couple of kosher hot dogs. The decadent dessert options include Rugelach, Babka, and New York Cheesecake. There is table service, but most people take a ticket at the door and give it to the counterman when placing their order; they then pay on the way out.

Balthazar Restaurant

Balthazar is a fabulous recreation of a typical French brasserie: bold, loud, and exciting. The space is dominated by red leather banquettes with retro mirrors, giving it a spacious look. The restaurant is a venture by Keith McNally, who also owns Pastis in the Meatpacking District. It offers breakfast, brunch, lunch, and dinner menus as well as special inventories for desserts, wines, and after-hours. You will find items such as grilled lamb T-Bones, duck confit, and crisp Berkshire pork belly. The Sunday Brunch is particularly popular.

Ear Inn

Ear Inn is one of the oldest bars in the city. The establishment is a relic of yesteryear, replete with old jugs that date back to the 1800s and memorabilia that is strewn throughout the space. Originally a watering hole for sailors, this eccentric bar is riddled with several ghost stories, making it something of a local legend. The kitchen offers the usual American pub fare with a few brews on tap. A true New York City bar, this is a great place to hang out with friends and enjoy a few pints.

Veselka

While the East Village has long been recognized as a trendy neighborhood, it also holds a rich history as an ethnic community. Veselka, a Ukrainian restaurant, stands as a testament to that heritage. This unique establishment combines the atmosphere of a luncheonette and a sidewalk café, exuding an Eastern European charm. The menu offers a variety of options, including breakfast muffins, bagels, potato pancakes, and egg sandwiches, among other selections, perfect for starting the day. For lunch, guests can enjoy a hearty bowl of borscht or indulge in the famous pierogies, while a satisfying dinner could consist of kielbasa or veal goulash, leaving patrons with contented smiles. Veselka provides a taste of tradition and a glimpse into the cultural fabric of the neighborhood.
