Built in the year 1834, De Zwaluw is the third windmill to stand on Van Echtenstraat. The first 1714 mill was destroyed in a fire and the mill built to replace it met with the same fate in 1833, leaving only the base still standing. The mill which stands today is a restored version of this 1834 mill which underwent repeated renovation in 1947, 1961 and 1978. The mill is tall with a seven story structure: a four layered base and a three level smock with a stage running around the third story of the brick base.
The history of Grote of Andreaskerk can be traced back to the early 16th century when the church was built. Grote of Andreaskerk is considered among the oldest churches in Hattern. The Havelter Molen windmill was first built in the year 1914. The mill which it replaced was built in the year 1873 and had sails which almost touched the ground. When this structure was destroyed in a lightning strike in the year 1914, the current structure was brought in from the town of Wapse and placed on the base of the old one. The three story brick base supports a three story, eight-sided smock and a wrap around stage. The mill no longer works with the support of wind but rather that of a hammer mill. You can come and take a look at the workings of this corn mill every Saturday.

After their own encounter with counterfeit art in Amsterdam, Matisse Henk and Erna founded the Museums Vledder which displays fake art pieces from around the world. The plural connotation in the name of the museum refers to three separate departments that visitors can access - the Department of Fake Art, the Department of Glass Art and the Department of Drenthe Art. The museum offers fascinating guided tours that help visitors identify and distinguish between real and fake art. Among the counterfeit art pieces on display, one can find works by expert forgers such as Han van Meegeren, Geert Jan Jansen and David Stein.
